Prima personale italiana per la giovane pittrice australiana Kate McCarthy che, dal 13 marzo al 22 aprile 2010, esporrà le sue ultime ricerche a Reggio Emilia, presso la sede di CSArt (Via S. Pietro Martire, 16/A).
La mostra, promossa da CSArt - Comunicazione per l’Arte in collaborazione con Retrospect Galleries (Byron Bay, Australia), raccoglierà una decina di opere recenti che, attraverso forme arrotondate e colori brillanti, catturano l’essenza dell’infanzia.
“Chux Redux”, ovvero il revival della carta da cucina, vuole essere una regressione all’età infantile, quando l’artista giocava con Orsetti del Cuore e Mon Cicci, vestendo le bambole con ritagli di Scottex. Come si legge, infatti, nella nota critica di Chiara Serri, “Kate McCarthy disegna carri, bruchi e uccellini attraverso continue combinazioni di cerchi, quadrati e triangoli. Elementi che, insieme ad un uso semplificato dei colori acrilici, ricreano la suggestione di una pittura infantile, espressione senza filtri della vita profonda delle cose”.
In occasione del vernissage, previsto per sabato 13 marzo alle ore 17.00, sarà visitabile l’anteprima della mostra, allestita fino al 22 aprile 2010.
Nata a Brisbane nel 1974, Kate McCarthy vive e lavora nella sua casa sulla costa orientale della Tasmania, vicino alla Baia del Fuoco. Si è formata presso Queensland College of Art, Victoria University e Curtin University, ma senza portare a termine gli studi. Ha preso parte a numerose esposizioni collettive e personali, ultime delle quali “Let's Playschool” (The Wall Exhibition Space, Hobart, 2009), “Petit Travaux” (Retrospect Galleries, Byron Bay, 2009), “Who Got the Bunny” (Gilligan Grant Gallery, Melbourne, 2010) e “Self” (Alchemix Studios, Brisbane, 2010).
CSArt è uno studio di comunicazione interamente dedicato al mondo dell’arte, per mettere in rete artisti, gallerie ed associazioni culturali. Il progetto, risultato tra i dieci beneficiari del contributo stanziato dal Comune di Reggio Emilia per incentivare nuove attività giovanili in centro storico, prevede oltre all’attività di consulenza in materia di comunicazione, anche l’allestimento di piccole esposizioni, per presentare alla città le ultime ricerche degli artisti iscritti.

First Italian exhibition for the young Australian artist Kate McCarthy who showcases her latest works in Reggio Emilia at the boutique style gallery of CSArt (Via S. Pietro Martire, 16/A), from March 13rd until April 22nd 2010.
The exhibition, organized by CSArt - Communication for the Arts in collaboration with Retrospect Galleries (Byron Bay, Australia), presents ten recent works that capture the essence of childhood through simple shapes applied by brush and kids’ toys and bright colors.
"Chux Redux" represents a regression back into childhood, when the artist played with Care Bears and Monchhichis, hand-sewing creatures with Chux Wipes. To quote Chiara Serri’s critical text, "Kate McCarthy paints trucks, caterpillars and birds through continuous combinations of circles, squares and triangles. Elements that, together with a painterly use of acrylic, revisits the charming essence of a child’s painting, an unfiltered expression of the deep life of things ".
The opening will be on Saturday, March 13rd at 17.00. The exhibition runs until April 22nd 2010.
Kate McCarthy (Born Brisbane, Australia, 1974) lives and works from her home on Tasmania's East Coast, near the Bay of Fires. She studied at Queensland College of Art, Victoria University and Curtin University, however without completion. She has exhibited her works in a lot of group and solo exhibitions, the latest of which are “Let's Playschool” (The Wall Exhibition Space, Hobart, 2009), “Petit Travaux” (Retrospect Galleries, Byron Bay, 2009), “Who Got the Bunny” (Gilligan Grant Gallery, Melbourne, 2010) and “Self” (Alchemix Studios, Brisbane, 2010).
CSArt is a communication office dedicated to the art world, creating a network for artists, galleries and cultural organizations. The project, funded by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, supports new youth projects in the city center and, as well as a comprehensive communications service, presents to the public small shows of recent work of selected artists.
